Fur Flies
HIE IMAI
invited all her nearest and
dearest to the St. Regis Roof in a celebration of fur and the Central
Park Conservancy. Chie is one of Japan's foremost fur designers,
and has a legion of loyal wearers here in New York.
The St. Regis Roof, site of so many
glamorous celebrity events, was decked out with vignettes of
typical New York scenes, where everyone could go and shop to their
hearts content.
Chie featured her famous Mosaic design on the elegant,
luxurious and fun furs. The skill and art of her fashions are
breathtaking, and her show was so oversubscribed when the first
invitations went out, she had to do an encore!
Among the front row were fashion supermodel Carol
Alt, P.Diddy's equally famous mom, Janice Combs, Wall
Street's Elaine Sargent, the Social Register's Tinsely Mortimer
on and on to 1,000 others!
A portion of all sales went to benefit the Central
Park Conservancy, one of every New Yorker's favorite
charities. If you're looking for the unusual but outrageously
glamorous fur, visit Chie on East 59th Street. You'll be a very happy
camper.

What's "In Store?"
T’S been celebrities and VIPs every day
and every night for the past two weeks at Andrew Parker's
eponymous store As Parker on Madison and 77th Street on the
Upper East Side. This elegant men's haberdashery combines the
best of European taste and style with American know-how and
verve. A newer women's center adds color and sophistication to
this private label store.
On the scene with Andrew and his partner, Mom Beverly
Parker, were talented DJ Samantha Ronson and writer Mom Ann
Dexter Jones, the incomparable writer Jay McInerney,
Catherine Forbes of Forbes Magazine.
New hotshot video producer Stephanie Linde was
talking about her Gotcha Girls. The Waldorf-Astoria's John Doherty was
inviting everyone to his private, exclusive Chef's Kitchen dinners.
French designer Lloyd Klein and society's Jocelyn Wildenstein
breezed through, along with Mr. Broadway and his wife, Stewart Lane
and Bonnie Comley.
All the guests and celebrities were trying on furs,
wraps, cashmeres and faux fashions. It's a great place to party,
a fabulous place to shop, combining both is wonderful.

Patti LaBelle |
Reaching The Heavens
While Dressing For Success
T WAS in the New York Athletic Club, once
a male-only WASP bastion of all that was "proper" in
this world, that a chorus of Amens hailed the heavens and a rollicking
time was had by all at the Dress For Success luncheon, led by CEO
Joi Gordon.
Marilyn Crawford stirred this fabulous pot,
putting the great diva Patti LaBelle as headliner for
this annual fundraiser. It was created to solicit brand new and
gently used suits from wealthy working women, to be given to women who
were on the path to success but needed a wardrobe boost to help the
process.
It is now a global organization. Given the enormous
pride and dignity of the women members of Dress For Success who are
helped by the group, everyone involved in its success can take great
pride.
Lorraine Bracco was on hand for the
rejoicing, but Patti stole the show. First she couldn't stop
crying from the wondrous tale of success offered by Yoldanda Morales who
inspired all. Patti spoke of her humble beginnings with the La
Belles and on to her rich diva lifestyle. But the journey was
through the death of her mother and three sisters to diabetes and
breast cancer.
It ended with a special request of Over The Rainbow
to cheers, shouts and bravos for this fabulous Woman Of The Year (and
a lifetime too, I think). Get involved at www.dressforsuccess.org.
