SCHEIDER and his wife Brenda Siemer co-hosted a special
cocktail party celebrating the committees and sponsors of the
Stella Adler Studio of Acting Gala, Stella
by Starlight, at the magnificent Bridgehampton hilltop
estate of Barbara and John (Bunky) Hearst.
Ellen Adler and Tom Oppenheim,
daughter and grandson of the legendary Stella Adler,
announced the 2004 Stella Adler Studio of Acting Awards. These
will be presented at the Stella by Starlight Gala, November 8.
Mike Nichols will present Pulitzer
Prize winner Tony Kushner the Jacob Adler Award for
courageous contributions to Jewish and American culture.
Arthur Miller will receive the Group
Theater Award for prolific achievement in theater, film and
television and commitment to social justice, presented by Julie
Harris.
The Stella Adler Award for consummate
interpretation of the Stanislavski / Adler Technique will be
presented posthumously to Marlon Brando.
Al Pacino, who co-starred with him in The
Godfather, will accept on his behalf.
In speaking of her dear friend Brando, Ellen
Adler noted "we were sweethearts" and they spoke
every day.
Ellen's son Tom Oppenheim, president
and artistic director of the studio that bares his grandmother's
name, said Brando "was a member of the Adler family since he
was 19 years old" and noted "he was a paternal presence
in my life and helped me in many important ways".

Donna and Dick Soloway, Eli Wallach and Anne
Jackson, Isobel and William Konecky, Gail Furman, Pia

Loggia and Milton Justice.
Also seen strolling around the Hearst’s
expansive veranda with its sweeping views were: Jane Hitchcok
with Ken Koppel, Louise Peabody and Edgar Lansbury, Jill
and Bobby Zarin, Henry Miller with Dawn Baker Miller,
Iris and Michael Smith, Colleen and Gary Rein,

The
Stella by Starlight fall gala will take place November 8 at
the
Pierre
Hotel
to benefit the studio’s scholarship and outreach programs.
Co-chairmen are Mike Medavoy, Roy Scheider,
Benicio del Toro, Lauren Bacall, Julie Harris, Sidney Lumet and
