OR
a month New
York City was the center of the world’s art market. Sotheby’s
and Christie’s alone auctioned off more than $590 million worth,
including Picasso’s “Garçon a la pipe,” which Sotheby’s
sold for a record $104 million.
The
Society of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center gave their most
generous supporters the golden opportunity of being first to see
the remarkable art collection of Mr. and Mrs. John Hay Whitney,
which was the star offering at Sotheby’s.
Jamee
Gregory, Jamie Niven,
and Leslie Jones hosted a cocktail party to thank big
ticket supporters of their 2003 preview party for International
Fine Art and Antique Dealers Show last October, which raised an
astounding $1 million for the Cancer Center.
And
there were masterpieces! Besides Picasso, think Renoir, Manet,
Degas, Matisse, Braque, Henry Moore, Kandinsky, Degas,
Fantin-Latour, Corot and William Blake.
Among
the fortunate guests were Arie and Coco Kopelman, Nan
Kempner, Adrienne and Gigi Vittadini, Maria
Cooper-Janis, Emilia and Pepe Fanjul, Muffy
Miller, Paul and Daisy Soros, Liz Gardiner,
Mary and Marvin Davidson, Jane Gosdan, Jamie
Drake, Lavinia and Brian Snyder, Joanne and Roberto
de Guardiola, and Carroll Petrie.
Also
Nicole and Derek Limbocker, Blaine Trump, Suzanne
McDonnell-Long, Peter Gregory, Muffie Potter Aston, Somers
and Jonathan Farkas, Chappy Morris and Melissa
Stanley, Hilary Dick, Peter Jones, Larry
and Denise Wohl, and Henri Barguirdjian, the
president of Graff, who said that his jewelry company would
sponsor the preview again this year. Fabulous! |
