ROSENAY was
deejaying at a Matzo Ball on December 24 two years ago in New Haven,
Connecticut, when he spotted a gorgeous young lady surrounded by
friends. Undeterred, he approached and asked, “Is there any
potential?”
Melissa Hirsch
cast a glance at her admirers and said, “I don’t think so.”
“I didn’t mean with
your friends,” Charles persisted. “I mean with me.”
From potential to reality:
Last month Charles took Melissa on a Club Kosher tour to the Playa
Grande Beach and Golf Resort in the Dominican Republic. He and Danny
Levine are partners of the tour company, which entertain
vacationers at exotic destinations.
Charles and Melissa
exchanged rings in a chupah under the sun. Everyone cheered as he
stomped on the glass and kissed the bride who was indeed radiant.
Dr. Ari Korenblit of
the Temple Sholom in Mill Basin, Brooklyn, assisted by Rabbi Aaron
Mehlman of Ohav Sholom Synagogue in Manhattan, conducted the
ceremony. Rabbi Shmuly Hecht, director of the Chai Society at
Yale University, read the ketubah (marriage contract) flawlessly in
the original Aramaic.
The bride, a nursery school
teacher in Hamden, Connecticut, walked on the outdoor path to the
nuptial canopy escorted by her mother, Barbara Hirsch,
director of a telemarketing company, and her father, Werner
Hirsch, a retired electrical engineer.
Melissa’s uncle, Dr. Barry
Herman, was kvelling. He is a professor of education at Sacred
Heart University. Melissa’s five-year-old daughter Lauren,
from a previous marriage, looked beautiful in her special white
dress.
Momentarily the palm trees
swayed in a gust of wind and a passing cloud let a few drops
descend. The 290 guests seated by the outdoor pool took it all in
stride as a divine sign of a fruitful future.
