Oh,
Brother! How Versatile!
By TIM BOXER
have been reluctant to use a multi-function machine. In the
past I used separate machines for different tasks – fax,
copier, printer, and scanner. If one is incapacitated, it
won’t affect the others. Whereas in a multi-function
environment, if one part goes on the blink, you have to send
the whole machine off for repair and you’re left without
the other capabilities which are still intact.
Brother changed my
work habits. They have the ideal all-purpose machine. It’s
an MFC 9200C that offers six functions in one unit: printer,
fax, copier, scanner, PhotoCapture Center, all in color,
plus a PC fax.
All these functions
in one would cost you less than if you’d purchase the
individual machines. Street price for the versatile MFC
9200C is $499. The price tag is well worth it when you
consider that you’ll save a bundle and reduce desktop
clutter at the same time. What more could you ask for?
It’s an excellent
document station for home office and small business.
With the
PhotoCapture Center functionality you can use two digital
media drives for Compact Flash and SmartMedia cards. You
plug in your memory cards and print your digital pictures
directly from the unit, without downloading the images to
your PC.
The flatbed design
is especially useful, enabling me to scan, copy or fax from
a book or magazine. This was a tremendous improvement over
my previous fax machine, which was not flatbed and allowed
me to copy only single pages.
Installing the unit
was easy. You connect to your PC with either parallel or USB
connection. Print quality was excellent.
